Hello 2021 from Carlyon Bay in Cornwall!

Happy New Year from Carlyon Bay in Cornwall!

Lets Hope 2021 Brings Some Joy!

2021 began with a soul restoring sunrise; there is nothing like a walk on the beach to restore and re-balance your mind. This was a fitting way to welcome the new year. The freezing conditions left a sparkle to the leaves and driftwood, whilst the sand was frozen solid.

The rising sun lit up the sea glass that was glistening along the retreating tideline....... little jewels in the sand. I do think of them as gifts from the coastline; small rewards for picking up plastic and other pollutants that don't belong on the beach, however, it got me thinking that these 'gifts' are indeed a pollutant that doesn't or shouldn't be there. Does the broken glass become accepted over time?

My beach cleaning buddy enjoyed his first walk of the New Year

The view to Gribbin Head is probably one of my favourite in Cornwall.

I am always impressed by the visitors to Carlyon Bay. many live locally and bring their dogs to enjoy the beach, but more often that not, their collective efforts to pick up plastic has such a positive impact on the natural environment. It restores my faith in humanity and leaves me feeling hopeful ....

There are numerous bins along the beach, you rarely have to carry any rubbish far to dispose of it safely. The people who look after the beach are excellent at emptying bins. I wonder about the person who came to the beautiful beach to enjoy their Costa drink, and yet felt compelled to leave the cup and lid behind.......

These little plastic fish from take away sushi are a regular find

I am also unsure as to how, why and where needles come from. How should these be disposed of? I rarely find the needle section, but the syringes seem to be common at the moment.

Good on whoever left their durex wrapper behind, good to see precautions are being taken to ensure any unwanted implications...... nevertheless, this is really unwanted on the beach! Carry on the responsibility to the environment too!!

So, from me and my beach cleaning friend - have a happy, hopeful and positive New Year! Come to the beach; enjoy, embrace and engage with the peace and tranquillity ..... but leave nothing but footprints (Or paw prints!) πŸΎπŸ’œ
