Lets go Fly a Kite.... and then just leave it on the beach!

One thing i find pretty infuriating, is when people go to considerable effort to take an items to the beach to enjoy such a beautiful and natural environment, and yet, discard items with little thought for the negative impact this has. what else is super annoying for me, is when people have to walk past bins to leave the beach!

This irritation and risk to the environment was recently illustrated when i found a kite on the beach.

It took me about 15 minutes to untangle to kite from branches, seaweed and my puppy to enable its safe disposal.

What was really worrying, was the 2 plastic rings with metres and metres of string to fly the kite, the damage this would have done to wildlife was pretty frightening to consider.

Par beach, where this was at, is actually one of the best beaches for bins i have visited. It is a long beach and has bins dotted all over the place which are emptied frequently; so there is no excuse.

Rant over! puppy untangled and kite disposed of safely!

Sunrise at Carlyon Beach in Cornwll

We got to Carlyon Bay bright and early to catch the sunrise over towards Polkerris and Gribbin Head, it was worth it! Absolutely beautiful.

As far as plastic pollution goes, it wasn't too bad, the usual pockets where it all gathers, and just the occasional food wrappers washed up with the incoming tide.

This Henry vacuum cleaner was the other side of the fencing, so i couldn't have got to even if i tried, i suspect it would have been a bit big, bulky and heavy for me to carry, but it was certainly a strange thing to see on a beach!

Beautiful to see nature awakening and the blossom appearing; it acts as a reminder to why i beach clean; nature is glorious and should not be tainted with pollution that threatens it's beauty

Par Beach and Harbour and a Very Low Tide

The full moon meant that the low tide was incredibly low, this enabled me to get to places that are normally submerged. I was able to walk into Par Docks, and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of plastic pollution or marine debris in general. I wonder if they clean up and litter?

Further down the beach i found some interesting items, including this hairspray plastic tube, a top / lid which reads 'Baby will like farex too'

An almost intact glass and 3 beautiful buttons, which included the very pretty clear glass button

It was a little disturbing to find this dollas head / torso, and a plastic Boots tube of hair conditioner

Some interesting finds and some interesting experiences of Par Docks.

Back to Par!

A return to Par beach again. I think i chose this beach because it is the closest beach to me and there always bits of plastic to be picked up.

Lots of nurdles and beads. Some beads come from fishing tackle and i think there is a certain bead that could be a hama bead.

A collection of pyroplastics; i  think these are really dangerous. you often struggle to spot them amongst the stone.

A smarties lid sitting on top of thick seaweed just waiting to be found

This sort of thing really annoys me, it looked like numerous party poppers had been let off. This is impossible to pick up.

Polkerris and the additions of Lego to my Collection

We headed to Polkerris for todays beach clean. There is often a large amount of plastic washed up with the tide; past tides have pushed debris to a higher level. There were so many nurdles; such a sad sight :(

A washed up food packet /wrapping. Sadly it was too worn to ascertain the brand and date

Looking around on the harbour wall and something caught my eye.... Can you see it? A black flipper by Lego and from the consignment that was lost at see in 1997

I love the Rashleigh Inn in Polkerris;    Good views, good food and overall fab place to go for a drink and/or meal.

Vintage finds at Par Beach, Cornwall

Todays beach cleaning adventure took me to Par beach, the dawn sky was tinged in a beautiful purple shade, and the lights from Par Docks lit up that section of coastline

A yoghurt pot was washed up in the seaweed, and another dog ball! We didn't keep this ball as it wasn't in a good state, but we disposed of it responsibly. I think Woody must have over 20 balls in the garden that we have picked up on our beach cleaning adventures!

2 bottles by Wella which date to the 1960's / 1970's and a 'Glees' chewy fruit sweets wrapper, which is circa 1960's. Glees were made by Mars.  It always amazes me the condition that some items are in. It is almost like they have just been put there.

Hands that do dishes! This Fairy washing up liquid bottle was in an ok condition considering it is approx 60 years old!

Sunrise at Carlyon Bay in Cornwall

An early start so we could see the sunrise, it was worth the 5am start! The colours of the sky were beautiful and they lit up the coastline and Gribbin Head with the Day Marker; pure bliss!

Cans are something i find on most beach cleans, although they are not plastic, i always include them in my overall beach cleaning habits. They can be found in varying stages of breaking down, and leave sharp and nasty shards of metal. This is obviously not good for the environment or wildlife

Finding a bike saddle was a first for me! This one looked like it had been in the environment for a long time. The saddle details are: Selle Royal Spa is a company from Vicenza, Italy, founded in 1956 producing saddles for bicycles

Lots of white items found today, it is funny how you can find themes during beach cleans. I hadn't realised the white theme until i got home and began to clean and sort ready for recycling etc

I always seem to find lighters at Carlyon Bay; i wonder why?

Other bits and pieces i found, again i have included the metal bottle caps as i always see so many of them! You can also spot part of a drinks can, this illustrates the fragments that occur from the cans breaking down

S. Maw, Son and Sons Ltd Polythene Feeder Bottle

On a recent beach cleaning i came across a pretty average looking plastic bottle, thinking nothing more about it, i picked it up and popped it in my bag to dispose of it responsibly. When i got home and had a look, i was surprised to see some writing on the bottle.

S. Maw, Son and Sons Ltd

After a bit of research, i found that the company had operated under slightly different names depending on who was running the business. Therefore, the date of this 'feeder' is circa 1918-1940

During this period - and considering the address on base of feeder - the below photo is an aerial shot of the factory in Barnet in 1937.

It is amazing what you can find - history is all around us
